For another commissioned work by Omey Projects, I turned to the Micaelense Typography in Ponta Delgada (Azores) to create frames with quotes from Fernando Pessoa that invoked “Light” for “The Lumiares Hotel & SPA”.

Although this was a job that could have been completed in a few hours if it were designed and produced digitally, it took us a week to achieve the final result.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to have the privilege of spending all that time as an apprentice to Master Dinis Botelho, at Micaelense Typography, learning manual typography printing techniques.

In this traditional process, each letter, number or symbol is manually selected and positioned precisely before being printed on paper. Always with Master Dinis’ guidance, I learned to control the process and produce high-quality typography art pieces.

The technique of manual typography printing is becoming increasingly rare, and it was a privilege to have spent all that time with one of the best typographic masters in Portugal. I am extremely grateful for the experience and for the exceptional frames we produced for the Lumiares Hotel & SPA.
